Mars Hobrecker is a young photographer with a focus on portraiture. Hobrecker has a fascination with exploring gender identity and the LGBT community through character study and applied social studies. The Nova Scotian relocated to study fine arts at the School of Visual Arts in New York.

Hobrecker’s series ‘M/F?’ is inspired by the idea of gender as social construction, exploring what makes a person male or female. The project pushes models out of their comfort zone, and reviews the reaction by third-party viewers. The series ‘Transcending Identity’ focuses more on representation of transgender and transexual people. The aim of the project is to give a fair visual representation of the group, while also celebrating the original leaders of the movement for individuality.

Mars Hobrecker personally identifies as a genderqueer. Hobrecker states, “Figuring all this out has been a huge part of my life, and besides a basic interest in ##### and feminist theory, there’s an importance to me in community.” Stats for Transgender Character Portraits Trending: Older & Average
