What do Mariska Hargitay, Sarah Jessica Parker and Demi Moore have in common? Well, aside from being actresses, they’re all women over 40 with long locks.

While some fashion experts, like designer Carolina Herrera, argue that “Long hair after 40 is out in my book as it looks too messy and too young. Women need to learn how to age gracefully,” but most boomers who rock these locks really don’t care what Herrera might think. After all, if Mariska Hargitay and fashion icon SJP can do it, why can’t they?

The gallery shows 40+ actresses with long locks including Hargitay, SJP, Michelle Pfeiffer, Elle McPherson, Susan Sarandon, Julia Roberts, Julianne Moore, Demi Moore, Salma Hayek and Brooke Shields.

All of them look great! One tiny thing (seeing how I'll be 40 next year) aren't most of these ladies Gen-Xers? Like me? I thought Boomers were late 40s through mid-60s. :-)

Boomers were born between 1946 and 1964. I think the short hair as you grow older 'rule' is just for curmudgeons. I have no intention of growing old gracefully. It's going to be ugly every step of the way.

That's what I thought Katie. What threw me off were Shields, Hayek, Roberts and Parker who were born 65 and later. No offense or criticism meant Bianca--Just scary for ME seeing Gen-Xers in here with boomers...being less than a year away from 40, I dread the thought of being considered a boomer. Gen-Xer seems younger in my mind. :-)
