MakerBot for Stephen Colbert Sends the Comedian up into Space
MakerBot for Stephen Colbert is the first mission of the MakerBot Space Program. A 3D printed bust of Stephen Colbert was sent into space with a camera so that every mile of the way could be captured. A giant weather balloon had to be used to carry the heavy bust of Colbert so that it stayed level with the Makerbot and camera.
The projected was presented on the Stephen Colbert show back in a June taping. The MakerBot for Stephen Colbert was created through a complicated process that includes various computer scans and a special jelly to fill the 3D mold of the funny man. Other celebrities have since been honored with the chance to have their busts sent up into space.
