Maggie Gyllenhaal, who plays Rachel Dawes in “The Dark Knight,” the new Batman movie, revealed she almost gave up the role after a disturbing paparazzi incident.

Maggie, 30, had been trying to keep her new baby out of the media’s eye, but five days after giving birth, she was tricked into the public spotlight. The paparazzi coaxed her out by lying about a fire across the street one morning, and the actress was beyond livid.

“The paparazzi were just really awful to us. I mean, they called the fire department and told them there was a fire in our little, tiny building in the West Village (New York) so that we would have to come outside with a five-day-old baby,” Maggie said in an interview.

After that shady encounter with the paparazzi, Maggie says she just about turned down her “The Dark Knight” role.

“I was trying to navigate my way through that (media intrusion) when this offer came,” she said.

“I thought, `It’s going to push that stuff further probably.’ But what am I going to do? I’m going to hide and not do things that are appealing to me? I’m an actress.”

Maggie was openly miffed about the paparazzi again when they photographed her breast feeding and spattered the images across tabloids and all over the web.

Good thing she didn’t give up the Dark Knight role, however! She scored major points as the movie’s starring love siren!

Is the Dark Knight a success, because of Ledger’s death? Some people have said that the movie blatantly played on the symbolism of 9-11 with the poster, some say it's a great movie, some say heath ledger played his best role. What do you think? More on this at www.SpecialReport.com
