Every Playboy magazine subscriber has uttered the famous words “I get it for the articles.” The new editorial director for Playboy just said essentially the same thing. Jimmy Jellinek wants Playboy to return to the “golden age.” He looks at the New Yorker and Vanity Fair as his competition… his first hire at Playboy magazine is Guns ‘n’ Roses bass player Duff McKagan who will pen a financial advice column. Jellinek said one thing he’ll do in his column is “bring down The Man,” adding, “I am sick and tired of hearing of these Wall Street ass——s getting huge bonus packages from our bailout tax dollars. What a lot of these people did to all of us in the first place is just plain criminal. I have never been keen on executives getting golden parachutes; I’m more apt to give them a golden shower.” Take that New Yorker!  "We want to be a magazine of ideas that leads the national conversation."
What he plans, he says, is "a return to our golden age," producing a magazine like "the Playboy of the 1960s, which occupied the political and moral high ground." There will be more columnists and the same classic interviews with leading thinkers like economist Paul Krugman, whose interview will appear in a upcoming issue.
