The short video ‘Luminaris’ by Argentinian director Juan Pablo Zaramella, is a beautifully orchestrated short featuring a man’s plight to escape from the confines of a world controlled and timed by light.

The stop-motion quality of the video lends itself perfectly to the sequence created by the cycles of light. Beginning with the rising sun, Luminaris follows a man who works in a factory where marbles are chewed like gum and literally blown into lightbulbs. Following the protagonist's mission to extract the illuminating technology to his eventual success with the help of his romantic partner, Juan Pablo Zaramella has created a truly magical experience.

Besides winning the Audience Award and Fipresci Award at Annecy 2011, the video was also on the Oscar shortlist for Best Animated Short.
