The 'Nine Elms Bridge' has unanimously won the design competition to create a bridge that will cross London's River Thames that will connect Nine Elms to Pimlico, but with a distinct twist: it will only be usable by pedestrians and cyclists.
The ethereal bridge design was created by Bystrup Architecture Design and Engineering and, upon completion, would allow London pedestrians a reliable way to get around the city.
The interesting detail about the 'Nine Elms Bridge' is how it celebrates and highlights London's River Thames rather than just viewing it as an obstacle to overcome. Graham Stirk, who is a senior partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and chairman of the competition jury, praised the design of the 'Nine Elms Bridge,' saying: "They see the bridge as a sustainable transport link and piece of new public realm which should be attractive, fun and a pleasure to use."
