Artist Bill FitzGibbons created a light solution to the mundane Birmingham, Alabama railroad that he now calls ‘LightRails’. This art installation intends to brighten someone’s day by means of computerized LED lights. What used to be a dark and gloomy railroad is now a bright colorful passage that people can look forward to on their daily commute.
The railroad is now vibrant and optimistic and yet another example of how art enriches people’s lives. The LED lights look amazing and one of his many rainbow projects to add to his portfolio. There are two parts of the station; a passageway for pedestrians to stroll on and the boarding platform. The two are divided by a set of columns. Thus, the way FitzGibbons installed the lights makes the station appear as a double rainbow infiltrating the architecture.
