Elation turns to shock as Memorial Cup champions Spokane Chiefs captain has the trophy break in his hands and then drops the coveted hardware. Moments after winning 4-1 against the hosting Kitchener Rangers, as Chiefs captain is passing the cup off to a teammate, the cup breaks in two. The team stood stunned and the crowd moaned loudly as the trophy laid in pieces on the ice.

The Memorial cup was earlier shown being taken out of a protective foam lined trunk and handled carefully by two men clad in white gloves.

After all this, apparently the cup presented to the Chiefs was a replica. The real 90 year old Memorial Cup is safely stowed away and unharmed.
