There are countless synthetic materials on the market that are used to make leather alternatives, but Piñatex is introducing another inventive option.

Piñatex uses tropical fruit waste to craft biodegradable faux-leather that can be used to make a range of fashionable accessories like sneakers and bags. Spanish designer Carmen Hijosa was inspired to create this pineapple-based leather after realizing there's a need for more sustainable and cruelty-free leather alternatives in the world. Since the product is made from pineapple leaf fibers, all Piñatex accessories can be composted when they reach the end of their lives.

In addition to appealing to mindful members of the fashion industry who work to produce sustainable garments and accessories, on a larger scale, Piñatex could also also has appeal to the upholstery industry.
