Learning in a Cave - China Elementary School Keeps Kids in the Dark (GALLERY)
[Edit]
Wow. Simply put, I am blown away and beyond intrigued by this school built inside a cave. Are these students in training to become the Batman of the future? If it is, that’s not the explanation the school in southwest China’s Guizhou province is giving.
Tucked away inside the mountains of a Miao village in Ziyun, children gather at Dongzhong, which literally translates to mean “in cave.”
Reuters explains the images in the gallery, “The school is built in a huge, aircraft hanger-sized natural cave, carved out of a mountain over thousands of years by wind, water and seismic shifts.”
In another photo, kids sit at their desks, in another, they play basketball on the underground playground.
It’s more than a little bizarre, yet very cool. So many people complain about working in offices devoid of sunlight, often referring to their designated work space as “dark caves.” Who’d have thought people would voluntarily work inside a literal one?
