A Kickstart to restart an original British cycling company

A group of cycling and design enthusiasts have launched a Kickstarter campaign to re-launch the Coloral company - British manufacturers of the original cycling bottle.

They were originally made in Birmingham from aluminium, with a fluted body, simple cork stopper and a scripted logo stamped on the base. They took pride of place on on the handlebars of the grand tour greats of yesterday, and since they went out of production in the 1960s, have become something of a collectors item.

The Coloral team want to raise enough money via Kickstarter to re-launch the company, with the £75,000 they hope to raise paying for the bespoke tooling required to make the first run of 2000 bottles.

And the lovely twist to the story is that if the project is funded, manufacture will resume in a steel spinning factory - one of only a handful left in the UK - which is on the very same street that the original bottles were made all those years ago.

The team have made some slight tweaks to the original to make it suitable for the modern day, upgrading the material to food grade stainless steel and changing the dimensions so that the bottles will fit into standard bottle cages.

They bottles are a beautiful, hand crafted product made in Britain, and because they're made using steel are a sustainable and 100% recyclable alternative to plastic bottles.
