Katy Perry's "I Kissed A Girl" Tops UK Charts

Katy Perry is topping the charts with her controversial hit song, “I Kissed a Girl.” In fact, she has now scooted in front of Kid Rock and is #1 on the UK music charts. It has also been #1 for seven weeks in a row on the USA Billboard Hot 100 where it’s been on the charts for 13 weeks now.

There has been a lot of ferocious criticism regarding the song, particularly because of her very Christian upbringing and its offensiveness to the gay community. 

Interestingly, there has been a lot of focus on gays in the media, and the success of this song about experimenting with lesbianism speaks to that.

In an ironic twist, the 23 year old California native’s song, “Ur so Gay” was tremendously well received by many global listeners, however, she also received a lot of criticism as it seemed to discriminate against gays.

Although her song lyrics have been accused of being both misandric and homophobic, regardless of the tone used, Katy Perry is one of many celebrities helping to ease the taboo nature of speaking about being gay.
