Since many cultures consider drinking tea an important daily ritual, the Karmi tea canister offers a unique way to drink this tasty beverage. Although deceptively simple, this wooden thermos-like container made specifically for tea takes artisans over a year to complete.

Manufactured by Syosen, which is based in Yamanaka, the Karmi tea canister is crafted using a half-century-old lathing technique. The cherry wood is cut thinly and vertically, then coated several times in clear lacquer to maintain the natural beauty of the exposed grain. The intensive process behind the Karmi tea canister was inspired by the Edo era's art of tea ceremony, which was followed by the area's bohemian inhabitants. This is one tea pot that makes tea-drinking a pure artisan pleasure.
