She’s no Sarah Palin (yet) but Yuriko Koike may become even more powerful than the Alaskan governor if she is successful in becoming the Prime Minister of Japan. She won’t get the headlines like Sarah Palin, but the former defense minister is formidable in her own right. Like Sarah Palin, Yuriko Koike got her start in television news. She is fluent in English and Arabic and promises to tackle women’s and environmental issues. She won’t get the U.S. media attention of Sarah Palin, but her candidacy is just as trend-shaking.  "Women often want to work while still looking after their families, but it's hard for them to get the chance," Koike, who is single and childless, told reporters.
"I want to deal with women's issues on a cross-party basis. That will unleash the potential energy of women and make Japan an energetic country," she said.
