Interactive Glowing Rugs - High Tech Flooring

Now it’s time flooring got really cool with a new range of prototype rugs which glow when you step on it. I really want one right this instant.
Invented by Leona Dean of London’s South Bank University I think it it one of the coolest things I have seen in AGES. The light up rug is called Footlume and was made for a college course - it uses rechargeable batteries and lights up in response to the weight applied when a person walks across the carpet. Simple really!
“Electroluminescence relies on an electric field to generate visible light,” LiveScience explains. “Other light producers include photoluminescence, which is used in many glow-in-the-dark toys; and chemoluminescence, which involves light-producing chemical reactions (as in the body of a firefly).
“So-called responsive surfaces such as Footlume are considered by some experts the next big thing in interiors for fashion-savvy and techie homeowners.”
