The Instagram comment filter is being introduced and it may change the way consumers use the application quite a bit. Most people have heard about the concept of 'trolls'; they're essentially people who go on to another person's social media account and slander them via comments. Although everyday people can be a target, popular social media stars generally bear the brunt of this.

According to a quote in Vogue, currently the filter is only an option for "high-volume comment threads." -- basically accounts that are extremely popular, such as celebrities. Both Chrissy Teigen and Kylie Jenner have started implementing the filter, which allows them to either shut off comments or ban comments with certain words that they have chosen.

Social media is normally a realm where users feel free to express themselves in any means, but with the increase of trolling the need for censorship is apparent across all forums. Perhaps it comes with the territory but it seems Instagram is looking to make the platform a safer place for its users.
