Indian design firm Abraham John Architects has designed a retreat that is meant to be a monsoon refuge. The monsoon retreat is nested in between the Khandala Valley just in between Mumbai and Pune.
The inspiration of this retreat is the duality between nature, openness and privacy. The entire villa is surrounded by a swimming pool and gardens. The villa is especially designed to cater to the conditions of the area which needs to withstand the extreme weather conditions during the monsoon season. The blurring of boundaries between exterior and interior can be seen throughout the layout of the structure, where each and every room is fitted with a private outdoor terrace or garden.
The rooms are also structured so that they connect in some way or another to enhance the feeling of freedom and a space free from obstruction.
