IKEA Austria is now using retail beacons for the purpose of pushing in-store marketing to consumers who have the IKEA FAMILY app downloaded and Bluetooth enabled.

At its store in Graz, in-store beacons are situated at certain spots in the store in order to welcome shoppers on arrival, entice consumers to take a break at the Food Market and enjoy a free coffee, or offer reminders to use a rewards card when checking out. This offers another layer of interaction that doesn't require a sales associate to be nearby.

In the past, IKEA has embraced creative social media campaigns and augmented reality in order to push its offerings as a forward-thinking furniture retailers. With beacons now being used for the purposes of in-store marketing, a new level of engagement is introduced to brick-and-mortar spaces.
