Eco Luxury Car - Mercedes Hybrid S400 & ML450

Finally Mercedes is entering the luxury hybrid car market, with one of their top sedans, the S400. 

Expected to be available in 2009, the S400 will have a V6 engine creating 279hp and a 20hp electric engine to put the total power at 299hp. 

Even with the pared down engine, the car still goes from 0-60 in 7.3 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.  O

f course the appeal of the hybrid is the gas savings, so while cruising in this beautiful piece of German engineering you can be assured that you are averaging 32.8mpg. The car features regenerative braking, creating energy from the friction of the brakes and also uses the electric motor to start the gas engine, for smooth starts. 

This is a great thing for the hybrid car market, more great choices for the luxury buyer.  If you can’t wait for the S-class sedan, the ML450 hybrid SUV will be available later this year.
