We know that all fashionistas love black—it is evident through all the great decades of fashion. But making up your lips with the color black has never exactly been a mainstream makeup phenomenon—apart from goths, Addams Family fans and all Friday the 13th fans.

All of these ladies in the gallery above, however, wear the black lipstick with style. From the A/W ‘09 catwalk shows such as YSL, Giles and Luella to the young fashionable celebs like Lily Allen, they all look hot with black lips.

I think the trick is wearing something extra-feminine and with color so as to not look like you are preparing to give the kiss of death.

I've always wondered when this would come into play. It's relatively gothic sexy, but shockingly black hasn't been an 'it' colour. Maybe the dismal gloom of 2009 will help the dark side rekindle mysterious love.
