She’s only 23, but Scarlett Johansson is standing up to battle the fight against Hollywood Ageism.

The new term refers to the maltreatment of older actresses and the fact that as they wrinkle, their careers deteriorate along with them!

“Women kind of wilt as men sort of achieve as they get older, like wine or whatever,” Scarlett Johansson said. “It’s like, ‘Oh, she’s past her prime and she can’t play a sex symbol’.”

She added, “It’s just a preconceived notion about women in general and particularly in this industry. It’s a very vain, vain industry.”

The term doesn’t really apply to Hollywood men as much; in fact, a lot of actors are considered sexier with age. Think George Clooney and Pierce Brosnan, and you’ll know what I mean. But what female gets sexier with time?

Madonna arguably, although she’s a singer, not an actress. Michelle Pfeiffer, Demi Moore and Sharon Stone are still stunning, and even Jane Fonda and Meryl Streep look phenomenal for her age. Regardless, supporters of aging celebrities, Hollywood or not, want to add more names to that list.

With endorsement from highly idolized young celebs like Scarlett Johanson, it just might happen. Stats for Hollywood Ageism Trending: Older & Average
