Considering that a thick glaze, sprinkles and sugary powders are often added onto the tops of donuts that already have tons of sugar baked into them, it is no wonder that the phrase "healthy donuts" is so uncommon. Even so, Mr. Donut in Japan is hoping to help consumers enjoy their love of donuts in a healthy way with its new collection of 'Oil-Cut Donuts.'
These donuts come in three flavors, including" Plain, Kinako (sweet soybean powder) and Beni Imo (purple sweet potato.)
While standard donuts from Mr. Donut typically have somewhere in the range of 300 calories, these new healthy donuts boast anywhere from 115 to 120 calories each. As the name of the donut collection suggests, similarly, the fat content has been significantly reduced by about 40%.
