Would you buy a picture of a chimpanzee off of eBay? Wait... there’s more. What if I told you that the picture was in a wooden frame? How much, you ask? Very affordable. Most are under $50 USD. But here’s the kicker--these monkeys are hand-painted on cotton canvas. In the seller’s own words, “The painting is absolutely ready-to-hang when you receive it.” And there you have it. Real art. Real cheap.
Implications - Contemporary society likes to talk about how art has moved from something that was enjoyed by the common people to something that only 'elitists' and the super wealthy can afford to follow. This is the perfect example of real contemporary art that makes it plausible for every day people to enjoy.
