These Halloween illustrations by Panamanian artist Mariery Young are funky and frightening in equal measure. Taking inspiration from the absurdity and beauty of classic and contemporary horror design, Mariery blends fresh pastel colors with the clean lines of iconic horror film imagery.

This ongoing Halloween illustrations project is part of the #31DaysOfHorror concept -- with a single design being created and uploaded each and every day. This allows Mariery to cover a wide range of Halloween illustrations, with examples ranging from the Bride of Frankenstein to ceremonial masks or even the Gremlins from the eponymous film.

Juxtaposing horror history's gloomy aesthetic with a bright and breezy color palette, the artist defies a viewer's expectations with compositions that are more evocative of summer than they are of Halloween night.
