For every pair of GROOBS shoes sold, the company gives another pair to someone in need. Sound familiar?
What this company does that's unique from TOMS Shoes, however, is that in addition to giving a second pair, they also donate 50% of the proceeds to a charity of the purchaser's choice. Instead of BOGO (buy one give one), they're calling their model BOGO FIVE O.
GROOBS, which stands for Giving Relief Out Of Buying Shoes, actually wasn't designed to replicate the TOMS model. In fact, the founder, Jason Fry, says the idea came to him before he had even heard of TOMS -- the idea came to him while he was in church.
In the video above, he shares his story of his pre-social business days when he was working in the corporate world, he talks about where the idea for GROOBS came from, and his vision for the company.
