Studio Thier & van Daalen design the new GRID Pendant Lights that are seen during this year's Salone del Mobile. The lights are made from mouth-blown glass and it is shaped like knobbly hard candies for a playful element to the series. The studio explores a range of class shapes and creates a series of mesmerizing structures.
It has a bulbous shape and at a closer glance, there are textured designs for a hypnotic effect. The rounded side of the shape is made when the glass is red-hot and close to the consistency of liquid on one side as it is pressed onto the brutalist steel construction. The process was directed by designers and takes into consideration the blend of gravity, air pressure, and temperatures.
