Pregnant and nursing mothers and young children can unknowingly be exposed to unsafe levels of mercury by eating seafood and fish. In fact, certain species have such high levels of methylmercury toxins that these should be completely excluded from their diets.

The Got Mercury? calculator allows you to enter the type of fish or seafood you are thinking of serving and at the click of a button alerts you to potentially dangerous mercury exposure.  There is also an Advanced Calculator for people who eat seafood and fish more than once a week. (Lots of supplementary information is also available.)

Eating seafood high in mercury is hazardous to your health, especially for women and children. The "Got Mercury?" calculator helps you make healthier seafood choices. Just enter your weight, the seafood type, the amount of seafood you will eat during a week, and click the calculator button. These calculations are based on EPA and FDA data (gotmercury.org)
