In military terms, a red alert refers to the threat of an impending enemy attack; however, if this is the case for the 'Red Alert' editorial in Glamour's May 2014 issue, you'd never know by looking at Joan Smalls. The model looks cool as a cucumber as she stares down the camera, almost as if daring the adversary to strike.
Fashion editor Jillian Davison and makeup artist Tom Pecheux collaborated on the crimson-focused military look. Davison provided the scarlet accessories (hats, scarves and a vintage Coca Cola bottle), while Pecheux applied a deep, velvety lipstick.
Photographer Cedric Buchet captured Small's steely-eyed determination, as well as a (fearless) smile or two. Even if you won't be engaging in battle anytime soon, you can still take a cue from Small's unfailing confidence and fierce military style.
