Yesterday’s surprise marriage of Gisele Bundchen and Tom Brady proves that while elopements and secret nuptials certainly aren’t new, brides and grooms are increasingly choosing to say “I do” surrounded only by their closest friends and family.

Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen hadn’t even publicly confirmed their engagement. Just last month, Bundchen had this to say to Brazilian magazine Caras Gi: “Someone deduced I was getting engaged…I don’t know how people are so creative.”

According to Us Weekly, Tom Brady and Gisele Bundchen were married at the St. Monica Catholic Church in Santa Monica at dusk. The wedding was attended primarily by immediate family. Bundchen’s bridal ensemble was entirely Dolce & Gabbana, with a trumpet-skirt strapless lace gown that hugged the model’s curves and a floor-length veil dotted with handmade satin roses.
