The Gigwam by Dustin Toland Makes Community Camping Cozy

Camping is a family or group tradition for many, and something like the Gigwam by Dustin Toland could make a bonding experience in the wilderness all the more intimate.

At its basic elements, the project includes a conical two-person tent with an exoskeleton scheme of supports and a collapsible tunnel that can connect to one of four arched doorways that zip straight off. With multiples of each component, one can create a network of pointed weather shelters joined by crawlspace passages. These can serve quite well as places to store belongings, sleep extra people, and slither between different structures.

The Gigwam by Dustin Toland was named with reference to the Native American “wigwam” communal dwelling, and the concept itself represents a temporary modern version.
