In an effort to encourage new customers to make the switch to satellite TV and get rid of cable, DirecTV started the #GetRidofCable campaign, which tells the story of what happens when you get bored waiting around for the cable guy.

DirecTV kicks things off, but the rest of the story was generated on Twitter by users. Each tweet builds off of the consequences from the one before and as the story goes, when you get bored, you volunteer for lab experiments, which then leads to a cheese addiction, causing you to break into houses in search of cheese... and so on.

As stories on the Internet tend to do, things escalate quickly and the Twitter submissions become more and more outrageous, although it offers some pretty compelling reasons for why you shouldn't wait around for the cable guy. Stats for Tweet-Generated Commercials Trending: This Year & Popular
