Fondling with DNA and genetics, this product is promoted as the

“Only Bioengineered Buddy”

. Targeting children with friendly packaging and cuddly sentiments Genpets are expected to sit on toy store shelves as soon as approved.

This living, breathing, eating, and possibly biting (teeth-remover kit provided) pet has been created using cutting-edge genetic engineering. Bio-Genica, a Bioengineering Company has combined and manipulated existing DNA to create this creature. Resembling an alien fetus, the pet actually contains blood, muscle, and bone, but is advertised as safe and harmless. Minimal needs and restricted movement seem to make it an ideal pet for children. There are even seven possible personality types to choose from including athletic, playful, and helpful, each with a color code. The pets come in a 1-year and 3-year model (lifespan).

Packaging includes breathing ducts, a fully-working heart monitor (whose flashing is sure to catch your eye), a feeding tube, and a fresh strip (nobody wants a stale pet!).

Maybe I am very yesterday, but I just don’t think I’m ready for any bio-engineered creatures sharing my bed - no matter how compatible our personalities may be!

But for a hoax, it fooled me!

The installation was designed by Adam Brandejs. Manufactured by hand, the artist featured the installation at several European and North American museums and galleries. The hoax has recently been featured on a weblog by the Museum of Hoaxes in San Diego, California.
