Explaining the amazing difficulty that gemstone hunters in the Karakoram mountain range in Pakistan go through, photographer Anna Huix states, "In a country that is always on the brink of tragedy, these men struggle against the misery and misfortune of the inaccessible mountain region where they were born."
In her photography series documenting the lives of these miners, she manages to capture the human side of the situation, portraying their families, their strife and their desire to survive in a treacherous task that is illegal and dangerous. Her images are stunningly beautiful, capturing the immense scenery of soaring mountains in an incredibly rugged and remote landscape.
Through her photography, Anna Huix tells the story of the gemstone hunters in the Karakoram mountains and their daily struggles.
