'Freeform' is a gamified music streaming service that promotes each individual album as a free app. The platform is inspired by the model of mobile gaming, which makes apps available for free as a way of attracting first-time users. The aim is to then convert a small portion of those users into paying customers by offering additional content for an added fee.

The service provides a unique app for each artist's album, including one free play per track each day. The app also provides lyrics, videos, photos and album liner notes. While this basic content is available for free, users can then pay an additional fee in order to access unlimited streaming, bonus tracks and mp3 downloads. The idea is to draw in those customers who are adverse to paying for music.

The gamified music streaming service has only been live for about a week, but it already features artists such as Rob Thomas and Matthew Friedberger.
