Freshkills Park is a monumental 2,200-acre undertaking on Staten Island, New York that will turn the world's largest landfill into a massive eco park.
At the height of the landfill's operation, Fresh Kills landfill was receiving upwards of 29,000 tons of garbage a day. Freshkills Park, however, will turn that cluttered legacy into a thriving green space three times larger than Central Park and chock-full of opportunities for New Yorkers to come and enjoy nature while also learning about sustainability and eco-friendly strategies.
