Dutch artist Suzan Drummen presents her floor installation located in Europe. The installation graces museum and gallery floors with precious materials such as jewels, stones, mirrors and optical glass. The installation appears to be symmetrical from afar, but upon closer inspection, is actually quite complex. Each stone has its place within the project.
The installation is exquisite and from afar, reminds me of a Middle Eastern palace; the way the colors are arranged to create an ombre effect, the way light is reflected and abstracted from the mirrors and jewels are almost mnemonic of something exotic. The designs in themselves are intricate and detailed and I love that some of her designs fray on the outskirt while others are cutoff as if the floor opens to reveal a masterpiece underneath. It is a fascinating and phenomenal piece of work done by a phenomenal illusionist.
