Tribes by Lucia Herrero is a photo series that focuses on families at the beach. Although it closely resembles the seriesTourist Stranger Self-Portraits by Benoit Paillé, the style is much more different even if the subjects are just as eclectic and eccentric. As though shot in studio, the Spanish photographer uses a full set of lighting equipment to add a theatrical element of fantasy to each image.
Instead of being inspired by the subjects themselves, Tribes by Lucia Herrero were influenced “by the studio portraits of ancient tribes who proudly posed in traditional costumes next to their prized possessions,” according to the photographer. By focusing on the human condition while vacationing, it captures their pride, vulnerability, honesty and more.
