Esquire's e-inked 75th Anniversary cover is ground-breaking. It's the first publication to actually use e-ink. Announced in July, Esquire has finally hit the newsstands. It's pretty much just a flashy thing on the cover announcing that Esquire realizes the 21st Century has started. The Esquire cover has a battery to power the cover which will give it a 90 day shelf life before it dies. At least one critic was not impressed:

Implications - Modern consumers are beginning to feel the monotony of products they have already seen numerous times before. Items that feature an unconventional element are appealing to those who want to experience something new.
