The 'Finding Rover' app uses advanced facial recognition technology to help find lost pets. The same biometric technology that has previously been employed to help humans, can now be used to help find your beloved furry friend.

The app works by asking you to continuously update a photograph of your pet so that its face can be analyzed if it does go missing. The built-in camera is specifically designed for photographing dogs and it will make an audible puppy sound to help capture your dog's attention. The facial recognition technology can identify more than 125 points on a face, making it extremely accurate for detecting an animal's features. If your pet does disappear, the app contains an interactive map with virtual lost and found posters. If your pet is found in a five-mile radius, the app will send you an immediate notification.

The app also works with humane societies in the US and Australia to make it easier for owners to find lost pets that have ended up at the local shelter.
