'Fake News Alert' is a Google Chrome browser extension that flags sites known for posting misleading or outright fallacious articles masquerading as fact.

One dangerous side-effect of the democratic structure of the internet is that there are no inherent checks and balances for claims that people can make. Anyone can pose anything as a fact, and if that link gets enough play, then people might start to believe it -- regardless of its veracity. Fortunately, journalists are working to combat this common problem, and Fake News Alert is one such effort.

The extension will not completely block any fake news sites, however it will insert a banner at the top of the screen that reads "The information on this site might be false or misleading!" when users are on dubious pages.
