If they choose to, workers in this Sheffield office building can depart the third floor and arrive at the ground floor exit in just 7 seconds via an enclosed tube slide referred to as a ‘helter-skelter.’ Even in this economy, a ride like that should lift a worker’s spirits. The project, aimed at people working in the creative industries and media, is a public/private partnership of landowner Yorkshire Forward, developers Scarborough Development Group, and Sheffield Council which owns the building.  Made of steel and plastic, it is 87ft long with a 40ft drop.
It will inevitably give the health and safety police palpitations, but that's all for the better according to designer Toby Hyam, who says it is intended as a 'statement about risk-taking'.
