British designers intend to make 3D video chat a reality with their creation, the Minoru 3D Webcam. Minoru is the Japanese term for reality and it reflects the performance of the webcam as it brings 3D images and videos. Minoru 3D Webcam is designed like an alien robot with two cameras that are positioned and spaced apart from each other like the human eyes. This creates an effect in which users tend to look at the eyes of the camera as it begins to capture videos or still pictures. It has a stand that can either sit or stand on a desk or cling to the monitor. To experience the 3D effect, users have to wear special colored glasses. The Webcam is compatible with Skype, AOL instant messenger, Windows Live Messenger, OoVoo and other video conferencing services. Minoru 3D Webcam is an entry to the i-Stage competition and it was able to get into the elimination to be part of the final 15. David Holder, one of the designers said, Im thrilled to announce that Minoru has made it to the final 15. The idea of 3D webcam builds on the long held fascination for 3D images we have. The ViewMaster has been around since 1939, stereoscopic were invented in the Victorian Era and 3D movies continue to be made. Minoru brings the 3D tradition up to date, putting 3D Web Chat, and 3D home movie making within reach of anybody. The availability of Minoru 3D Webcam is set on December this year.
