Alek Wek is the face of African fashion. This Day/Arise African Fashion Collective hit the catwalk on the opening night of New York Fashion Week. Grace Jones walked the ramp to officially introduce four designers.

Stoned Cherrie presented an Autumn/Winter collection with Xuly Bet, Malian, MOMO, and Tiffany Amber, designers from Nigeria. Arise Magazine celebrates the achievements of Africans in music, fashion and art. Alek Wek, who is from the Sudan, has graced the cover of Arise alongside other iconic models.

"Arise (the magazine) will communicate landmark successes that Africans, and people of African descent, have achieved in fields as diverse and varied as music, fashion, business and politics." When questioned after the show if he was a fashion philanthropist, he said no, he was a cultural ambassador. Indeed, the magazine presents so much more than just girls in pretty frocks (not that fashion is ever just that). "Africa has much to celebrate..." (fashionisimablog.blogspot)
