The ESPN online subscription service is a first for the Disney-owned network. Launching in time to live stream the Cricket World Cup, it allows fans to tune in online without subscribing to more expensive cable packages as well.

Although plans for the ESPN online subscription service has not yet been finalized, this step could mark a huge change for sport fanatics who have previously subscribed to other channels in order to get the one they actually want. Cricket might seem like an unlikely place to start when such a service, yet it happens to be one of the world’s biggest sporting events.

More details for the ESPN online subscription service will be announced sooner rather than later since the Cricket World Cup begin in February. So fans should stay tuned.
