Givenchy's Spring 2014 campaign has just been released with none other than Erykah Badu as its star. This soul singer is styled in beautiful tribal-inspired gowns for spring, draped in sequins, block patterns and neck scarves. She is fronting in a beautiful architecturally printed poncho and is presented as the icon that she is.
This ad campaign spreads the love and continues the Givenchy tradition of casting people that express an idea or value through their presence. The stylistic director Riccardo Tisci describes it as a family, and is the first of its kind to cast all women of color such as Maria Borges, Riley and Asia Chow.
There has been a lot of talk about diversity in fashion this year and thus, casting Badu is a socially conscious and intrinsic step.
