New York City’s Rockefeller Skating Rink is one of the most romantic locations, which is what makes it a favourite place for wedding proposals. For five days this year, couples looking to get engaged have the opportunity to set up the ultimate proposal, with private skate time on the rink as “their song” plays. Cheesy? You bet? Memorable? Absolutely.

Between November 29 and December 2, couples can have the event video taped by a professional camera crew who will upload the clip to brides.com. The videos will be open to public view and voting. As a reward, couples and voters will have the chance to win a luxury honeymoon vacation. For $200, they get private skate time to their song of choice, video footage, a champagne toast and a gift bag worth $500.

Maybe I’m just a sucker for romance, but this sounds like a really great opportunity—provided couples don’t mind having their most romantic moment broadcast for millions of viewers. That’s the only part that would deter me.

Ever since I watched Serendipity, a romantic skate on the rink has been near the top of my list of things to do in this lifetime.
