Who could possibly forget the figure-hugging Versace dress Elizabeth Hurley wore to the 1994 premiere of ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’? The gown, dangerously held together with safety pins, revealed Elizabeth Hurley’s seductive curves and was recently selected as the best red carpet gown of all time.

The distinction comes from a poll conducted by Debenhams department store of 3,000 women. The iconic Versace dress was auctioned last year at Harrod’s and sold for £10,690. Wearing the Versace safety pin dress to the premiere of ‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ is largely credited with Elizabeth Hurley’s rise into stardom; prior to the premiere, she was just known as Hugh Grant’s girlfriend.

Other iconic dresses in the list include, Audrey Hepburn's white flower patterned Givenchy dress, which she wore to the 1954 Oscars, was in second place and Julia Roberts' black and white vintage Valentino dress which she donned to collect her Best Actress award at the 2001 Oscars. (telegraph)
