Elena of Avalor is the first Latina Disney Princess. Targeting an important and emerging market, she brings the Hispanic culture to preschool programming by way of Disney Junior. Although it's not every day that a new Disney Princess is born, it's only natural that brand would focus on this particular demographic in order to be inclusive as well as cognitive to a basic population growth perspective.
As for the storyline, Elena of Avalor will first be introduced on an episode of Sofia the First and then spin out on her own with an independent series. The network released a statement about Elena of Avalor describing her as "a confident and compassionate teenager in an enchanted fairy tale kingdom inspired by diverse Latin cultures and folklore." She will be played by Dominican Republic-born actress Aimee Carrero.
