This is an alternative to more traditional veterinary techniques - animal acupuncture. Dr. Ann-si Li of Berkeley, California offers 1-hour sessions of acupuncture for ailing pets. She says animal acupuncture can reduce pain and cause a dramatic feeling of well being in an animal. Visit Dr. Li’s site to see success stories and learn more about animal acupuncture.
Each [animal] acupunture session takes about one hour, with Ann-si first checking his temperature, heartbeat, breathing and using a small Japanese electro stimulant to test his "pressure points" reflexes before applying the needles. For Leo, a total of 15 needles is applied each time with one near his rear end to improve his muscle contraction so he won't have "accidents" so frequently. Leo at first did not respond when the needles were applied, but by the 4th session, he jerked his leg when a needle was applied which delighted Dr. Li since that meant his reflexes were getting better.
